Sister Sai’s most recent project, Extempore, is a collection of improvisational tunes recorded during practice sessions. The impromptu style reflects Sister Sai’s typical solo live set – layers of loops of cello that has been run through a variety of effects pedals accompanied by sparse samples. Saira manipulates the sound of the cello to the extreme, making it almost unrecognizable at times.
Sister Sai is the moniker of multi-instrumentalist and producer Saira Raza. Her work displays a wide range of musical influences including jazz, folk, electronic, and classical. In her studio recordings, Saira employs any and all instruments within reach including vibraphone, guitar, bass, dilruba, found sounds, synths, but she primarily performs with her first love, the cello.
